A Celebration of the Arts in Downtown Hatboro

First Friday Hatboro will be a showcase for talent June 5 with student musical groups, Miss PA contestants

On hand for First Friday Hatboro June 5 will be Miss Mountain Laurel, Tristalyn Bixler-Kint, and Miss Southeastern Pennsylvania, Marissa MacIntosh, both contenders in the June competition for the Miss Pennsylvania title. First Friday Hatboro will be a showcase for talent June 5 when close to a dozen musical groups and entertainers will be in downtown Hatboro, including two young women vying for the Miss Pennsylvania title and musical groups from Keith Valley Middle School and Hatboro-Horsham High School in Horsham.

Presented by the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce and hosted by the merchants in downtown Hatboro, First Friday Hatboro is a celebration of the arts - with free activities for the whole family - held the first Friday of every month, rain or shine, from 6 to 9 p.m. Gold and black flags designate the businesses that are hosting an event.

MISS SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, MARISSA MACINTOSH, and MISS MOUNTAIN LAUREL, TRISTALYN BIXLER-KINT, who are hoping for a shot at the Miss America crown if they are successful in the Miss Pennsylvania Scholarship Competition June 21 to 27, 2009 in Pittsburgh, will greet First Friday visitors from 6 to 7:30 at Village Pretzels, 36 S. York Road, then will make their way to HATBORO BAPTIST CHURCH, 32 N. York Road, to share their talent.

MacIntosh of Abington, a graduate of Abington High School and LaSalle University, was crowned Miss Southeastern PA 2009 in March at a Miss America local competition in Dresher. A registered nurse at Abington Memorial Hospital, she is an accomplished vocalist.

Bixler-Kint, a native of York, is a freshman at Penn State University. A nationally titled baton twirler, she is a majorette at Penn State and is the competitive leading college majorette in Pennsylvania.

MacIntosh and Bixler-Kint will perform between sets of ANGELS WAKE, the featured band at the church's outdoor "Heavenly Brew Café." The band, whose 6-track EP, "Light Enough to Travel," has just been released, will begin at 7 p.m. Lead singer/acoustic guitar player/songwriter is Daniel Quinn; bass player is AJ LeBresco; Tim Reifsnyder is on the drums; and Ryan Wuebbels, lead guitar.

FOUR MUSIC GROUPS FROM KEITH VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL will share the spotlight at McMackin Tire Service, York Road and W. Moreland Avenue, beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the Chamber Orchestra. Next, the orchestra and Select Chorus will perform "Eleanor Rigby," followed by the Select Chorus, then the Jazz Band. The evening will end with music by the Van Burens, a faculty band.

Down the street, Impact Thrift Stores, 14 E. Moreland Ave., will present musicians from the newest addition to the jazz program at HATBORO HORSHAM HIGH SCHOOL: THE SWING UNIT. Organized by Jazz Studies Director Chris Kuczynski to give students an outlet to perform in different configurations and situations, the group is a collection of high school musicians ranging from duos, trios, quartets and on up.

The students from DeLuca Music will show off their talents as well, with performances at the store, 56 S. York Road. Little Corner Kitchen & Scoops Ice Cream Parlor, 101 N. York Road, will host the contemporary sound of "NAMELESS 9;" Edwards Studio, 7 S.
