Location: Hatboro Business District Time: 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Rain or shine. Cost: Free Website: www.firstfridayhatboro.com
First Friday Hatboro, a celebration of the arts held from 6-9 p.m. the first Friday of every month in the borough's business district, was launched April 4, 2008. It was organized by a committee of business owners, residents, and directors of the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce under whose auspices it operates. Thirty stores, restaurants and service providers initially signed on to fly the gold and black FFH flag and host live music, art and cultural events, all free to the public. Now some 50 businesses support the event. Prime sponsor of FFH is Hatboro Federal Savings, headquartered in Hatboro, which recently renewed its financial commitment for a second year. Chamber and FFH Committee representatives will mark a successful first year with a recognition ceremony and the cutting and serving of an anniversary cake - courtesy of LOCHEL'S BAKERY - at 7 p.m. in the parking lot at McMackin Tire Service, York Road and W. Moreland Ave. Joining the festivities at McMackin's will be "Eco-Man," James McLaughlin of Bucks County, whose interactive, family-friendly musical show brings meaningful words about the environment and peace. Splitting his time between McMackin's and Impact Thrift Stores, 14 E. Moreland Ave., will be ARLEN ZACHERY, with his "A-Z MAGIC SHOW," a high energy performance designed for children and family audiences. The magician, sponsored by Impact Thrift and the Kidz Klub (www.thekidzklub.com), will perform at 6:15 p.m. at Impact, move to McMackin's for a show at about 7:15 p.m., then return to Impact at 8:15 p.m. for a final show. The Gardeners of Crooked Billet invite children 12 and under to participate in a "MAKE AND TAKE CRAFT," also at McMackin's parking lot. The children will plant a bean in a cup so they can watch it grow, just like in the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. FREE FACE PAINTING will be offered at Scoops/The Little Corner Kitchen, N. York Road and W. Montgomery Ave., as well as at Lochel's Bakery, 57 S. York Road, which also will offer some "goodie" giveaways. This N That Gift Shoppe, 31 S. York Road, will host a return appearance from 7 to 9 p.m. by JOHN SPRAGUE who draws "caricatoonz." The shop will offer "sweet treats" and specials to celebrate FFH's first anniversary. The Union Library of Hatboro, 243 S. York Road, will host a book sale fund-raiser courtesy of the 5th graders at Pennypack Elementary School, who collected children's books and will be selling them during First Friday Hatboro activities at the library in April, May and June. Proceeds will be donated to support the library. The library also will host PEANUT BUTTER JELLY FISH, a band for children of all ages. Music will abound throughout downtown Hatboro on First Friday. Edwards Studios, 7 S. York Road, will present the talents of TINA MARGOT, performing acoustic guitar and vocals. Complimentary wine and cheese will be served. Hatboro Baptist Church, 32 N. York Road, will offer the Heavenly Brew Café, featuring the sounds of HEAVEN BOUND, an inspirational blues and jazz band. Refreshments will be served. At the Village Pretzel, 36 S. York Road, BRIAN'S CURSE, a rock/jam band playing originals and covers, will perform. For additional details about First Friday Hatboro, or for an updated schedule of events, visit www.firstfridayhatboro.com or call the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce at 215-956-9540. Also, during the week leading up to First Friday, shoppers can pick up an updated schedule of FFH events at Hatboro businesses. |
