First Friday Hatboro
A Celebration of the Arts in Downtown Hatboro
In the planning stages for nearly a year, First Friday Hatboro is being organized by a committee of business owners, residents, and directors of the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce under whose auspices it operates. Prime sponsor of the event is Hatboro Federal Savings, headquartered in the borough. More than 30 establishments already have signed up to participate. Gold flags bearing the First Friday Hatboro logo will be displayed
Next door at Hatboro Baptist Church, 32 N. York Road, the Heavenly Brew Café will be open from 7:30 to 9 p.m. serving up live music, as well as fair trade coffee, tea, sodas and pizza, in a family-friendly environment. Live music is on the agenda at a number of establishments, as are appearances by artists, photographers, a calligrapher, caricaturist, abstract sculptor and more. Activities won't be limited to inside Hatboro's shops. Outside on the sidewalk, a stiltwalker, courtesy of Salon on Main, will entertain. And WRDV-FM/WLBS-FM radio will do live interviews in front of its studios at 126 S. York Road throughout the evening. Hatboro's business district includes establishments along York Road and its side streets, from just south of Horsham Road at the south end of the borough, to just above Summit Avenue at the north end. A full schedule of First Friday Hatboro activities is available at www.firstfridayhatboro.com, as is information about parking and how to participate, either as a business host or a performer/exhibitor. The FFH Web site and logo were designed by Taryn Hipp of Hatboro, owner of MY MY, a Web-based shop of handcrafted items. For additional information, visit the FFH Web site or call the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce at 215-956-9540. HATBORO-HORSHAM EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION TIME FOR THREE Location: Hatboro-Horsham High School, 899 Horsham Road, Horsham 19044. Time: 8:00 pm. Tickets: $15; $20 preferred seating; $10 seniors; Free for students. After packing the house in 2006, Time for Three strings trio returns April 5th
The trio will perform at 8 p.m. April 5 at Hatboro-Horsham High School, 899 Horsham Road, Horsham, as part of the Hatboro-Horsham Educational Foundation's Cultural Events Series. Time for Three's popularity continues to spread nationally, with some 150 performances annually. What began as a group of young musicians playing together for fun, evolved into the charismatic and enthusiastic trio that knows no boundaries and defies musical classification. "It's a play off of the American roots music - Appalachian, bluegrass, gypsy influences and jazz. It's all within the umbrella of classical music sound," said group member Nicholas Kendall. "It's something that only can be experienced in person." The ensemble recently appeared at the 92nd Street Y in New York, the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater and Millenium Stage, the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, the Gardner Museum in Boston, the Brooklyn Friends of Music Chamber Series and the Cerritos Center for the Arts in California. The ensemble has recorded two CDs - a third is due this spring - written a soundtrack for the movie "The Spanish-American War" on cable television's History Channel, and this winter debuted a new work premiered by the Philadelphia Orchestra. The talented trio - Zachary DePue, violin; Kendall, violin, and Ranaan Meyer, double bass - met while students at Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music. "It was kind of a meeting of like minds," recalled Kendall. "When anyone studying classical music does any experimentation or improvisation, it really stands out. That definitely was the case with Ranaan, Zach and myself. We found each other. Whenever we got the chance, we would - excuse the pun - fiddle around together." Though only in their 20s, the threesome has performed with many of the world's preeminent conductors and orchestras. And they've won over critics along the way. Time for Three will also be meeting with Hatboro-Horsham School District students. Such school and community outreach programs are, according to the group, a "central part" of their mission. To order tickets, visit HHEF's Web site, www.hhef.org or call 215-420-5261. For additional information about the group, see www.tf3.com. |
