HATBORO ROTARY BLOOD DRIVE

Location: Horsham Township Community Center, 1025 Horsham Road (behind the township municipal building), Horsham 19044
Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

American Red Cross The Rotary Club of Hatboro, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will sponsor a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 3 at the Horsham Township Community Center, 1025 Horsham Road (behind the township municipal building), Horsham.

The whole blood donations the American Red Cross collects are separated into three components, red blood cells, platelets and plasma; each used to treat different ailments and conditions. In addition to the whole blood donations, another method of collecting blood components is available. Apheresis is a process which, during the collection, separates the whole blood to obtain a specific component, then returns the remaining components to the recipient. Blood type determines which component is best suited to donate, according to the American Red Cross.

Hatboro Rotary President Jay Wischum said typically there are blood shortages around the holidays, so donations July 3 are especially valuable.

The Rotary Club encourages anyone willing to donate blood to make an appointment by calling Lou Parys at 215-675-2439. For additional information about the donation process and how blood is used, call the American Red Cross at 1-800-GIVE LIFE or visit its Web site, www.pleasegiveblood.org.

THE GREATER HATBORO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

MOONLIGHT MEMORIES CAR SHOW

Location: Hatboro's York Road Business District from Fulmor Avenue (near Jarrett Dodge) at the south end of the borough to Summit Avenue (near DaddyPops) at the north.
Time: 5 to 10 p.m.
Admission: Free

Cars line York Road in Hatboro The Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its annual Moonlight Memories Car Show in downtown Hatboro by expanding the offerings in the July 28 event.

The free car show, which historically draws up to 75,000 visitors, will be held from 5 to 10 p.m., with cars lining both sides of York Road, from Fulmor Avenue at the south end of the borough to Summit Avenue at the north. But this year, there is no minimum age for the entries, opening the show to a wider variety of vehicles.

Because space was always at a premium, the chamber put parameters on the entries, limiting the classic, specialty and custom cars and trucks to those at least 25 years old, according to Bill George, Chamber president and car show chairman. But last year, the chamber extended the display area, moving the southern boundary from Byberry Avenue further down York Road to Fulmor Avenue, opening additional spaces for cars. Traditionally, the show draws more than 500 entries.

The top 50 cars in "Moonlight Memories XV" will receive special awards, as will those tapped for honors in specialty categories such as: Best of Show, Chairman's Choice, Ladies' Choice, Most Potential, Best Truck and Longest Distance Traveled.

Last year's winners were from throughout the Delaware Valley, as well as from New Jersey and Delaware, and from as far away as Brecksville, Ohio. Awards will be presented at 9 p.m. in front of Miller & Cornell Insurance, 112 S. York Road.

Interspersed between the vehicles on display will be vendors offering auto-related products and services and a variety of foods. Car show visitors who work up a thirst or an appetite also can drop into one of Hatboro's more than 20 restaurants, eateries, convenience stores and taverns.

As an added attraction, Bingo will be offered from 5 to 9 p.m. at the headquarters of the Second Alarmers Association & Rescue Squad of Montgomery County, 118 S. York Road.

Throughout the show, radio station WRDV-FM will broadcast live from the platform outside Miller & Cornell Insurance.
