Competitors Sought for the Summer Fun Festival's
"Hatboro Idol" and "Battle Of The Bands" Contests

If you've been singing in the shower, but dreaming about the stage,
the Hatboro Summer Fun Festival invites you to test your talent.

The Festival, being held May 26-31 at Miller Meadow, York and Horsham roads, Hatboro, will host a search for the "Hatboro Idol" from 6 to 10 p.m. May 29. The competition is open to all ages.

The first round of the competition will be held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. on the festival's stage. A panel of judges will score the contestants based on presentation, pitch, audience reaction and overall performance. Ten finalists will be selected for round two, which will be held from 8:45 to 10 p.m. The finalists will take to the stage again, but this time will be judged by the audience. The winner and runner-up, selected by audience applause after all contestants have sung, will receive $100 and $50 respectively, plus a variety of gift certificates.

Contestants may register in advance by e-mailing their names, addresses, phone numbers and ages to hatboroidol@yahoo.com or they can register the night of the competition at the Main Stage area.

Musicians in two categories, "Junior" and "Senior," are invited to compete in a "Battle of the Bands" contest at the festival from 2 to 11 p.m. May 31. The majority of members in bands in the "Junior" category must be under 18 years of age; in the "Senior," category, the majority must be over 18. Interested bands are asked to call the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce office, 215-956-9540 to get a registration form and waiver and a performance time. Time slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Cash prizes of $500 will be awarded to the top band in each category.

Proceeds from the Hatboro Summer Fun Festival, which features carnival rides, games, food and nightly entertainment, benefit the Enterprise Fire Company of Hatboro; the borough's revitalization organizations, Main Street Hatboro and Elm Street; the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce; Hatboro Parks & Recreation projects; the Rotary Club of Hatboro; and the Union Library Company of Hatboro.
